There are many bizarre skin conditions, some of which are so rare that there are less than a hundred registered cases since centuries. Some of these bizarre skin conditions have explanations and a solution while others do not have either explanation or a cure.

Health Care

Dermatographia is a condition of the skin where it becomes hypersensitive. Even the slightest scratch causes the expression of the immune system through a large production of histamine. This results in the capillaries to get dilated and welts to appear, so much so that a very famous artist used this condition to great advantage to produce images and impressions as the skin becomes red and raised with even minor injuries and scratches.

Vitiligo is another skin disease where the melanocytes responsible for the color of the skin are destroyed leaving white patched on your body that can spread to other parts too. Vitiligo is charecterised by grey or white patches, and grey hair in those patches. A combination of genetic and immunity factors, this complex skin condition is also characterized by white patches on the mucous membrane and the retina of the eyes.

Blaschko lines are part of a bizarre skin condition where black stripes or patterns are formed on the skin. These are very similar in people when they occur, in that they form V-shaped patterns near the spine and S-shaped patterns on the chest and the back near the shoulders. These patterns manifest as part of inherited diseases of skin or mucosa and happen as a result of mosaicism that cannot be related to muscular, lymphatic or the nervous system.

Some skin specialists believe that these patterns are due to an unknown pattern in the DNA itself and not part of a disease that could be predicted or whose symptoms could be diagnosed.

Argyria is a bizarre skin condition where excessive ingestion of silver causes the skin to turn bluish or bluish-grey in color. Some people who use colloidal silver to treat other medical complications like arthritis acquire argyria which is a permanent coloration of the skin.

Another bizarre condition, in fact the most bizarre one known to man involving skin includes, the infection caused by Human Pappiloma Virus. This condition is characterized by the growth of knarled warts all over the body so much so that the person suffering from it almost resembles a tree. The weight of these warts could cross over a few kilos.
